Grand Canyon Arizona

The answer is yes. There are thousands of years of history in the Grand Canyon. Some of it will never be seen by explorers. Some of it is passed every day by hikers and adventurers and they don’t recognize it. But what about lost history that was purposely hidden from us? Not necessarily hidden for the protection of historical sites but to hide history because it will rewrite the history we all were taught. Is that possible? Could there be an underground Egyptian city in the Grand Canyon? Let’s get into more of the story.

There’s no doubt that Theodore Roosevelt loved the Grand Canyon area. He visited the modern-day area of Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon several times to explore and admire its beauty. In 1908 he declared the Grand Canyon a National Monument and by 1919, the Grand Canyon status of National Park was granted.

Now pay close attention to the dates that I’ve mentioned above because I think it is crucial to the story that I am about to mention. There is a chance that this could be one of the biggest cover-ups known in the 20th century in the United States. I’ll tell the story, it’s up to you to decide how you feel about it.

Unknown Tunnel | Underground Egyptian City Hidden in the Grand Canyon

In the early 1900s a man named Mr. Kinkaid, an archeologist from the Smithsonian Institute was hired to discover the Western States. His trip consisted of several places, but one location may have changed the way we think about the Grand Canyon and our government organizations that research history. He started his trip in Green River Utah on the Colorado River through what’s known as the Utah’s Canyonlands. He had a companion and a wooden boat. Their plans were to float down the Colorado River to Yuma to document this unknown and unexplored area.

In 1907, there were no man-made structures like the Lake Powell Dam. There was nothing stopping them but nature itself. What was printed in the Arizona Gazette Newspaper on April 5th, 1909 is something that I found remarkably interesting.

The Gazette news article went on to talk about a lost city that he discovered after passing the area of Lake Powell’s modern-day dam. I am going to quote the Arizona Gazette News Paper and a couple of links where more information can be found.

Discovery Of The Lost City In Grand Canyon

Arizona Gazette April 5th 1909

The latest news of the progress of the explorations of what is now regarded by scientists as not only the oldest archeological discovery in the United States but one of the most valuable in the world, which was mentioned some time ago in the Gazette, was brought to the city yesterday by G.E. Kinkaid, the explorer who found the great underground citadel of the Grand Canyon during a trip from Green River, Wyoming, down the Colorado, in a wooden boat, to Yuma, several months ago.

According to the story related to the Gazette by Mr. Kinkaid, the archeologists of the Smithsonian Institute [1], which is financing the expeditions, have made discoveries that almost conclusively prove that the race which inhabited this mysterious cavern, hewn in solid rock by human hands, was of oriental origin, possibly from Egypt, tracing back to Ramses. If their theories are borne out by the translation of the tablets engraved with hieroglyphics, the mystery of the prehistoric peoples of North America, their ancient arts, who they were, and whence they came, will be solved. Egypt and the Nile, and Arizona and the Colorado will be linked by a historical chain running back to ages which staggers the wildest fancy of the fictionist.

A Thorough Examination

Under the direction of Prof. S. A. Jordan, the Smithsonian Institute is now prosecuting the most thorough explorations, which will be continued until the last link in the chain is forged. Nearly a mile underground, about 1480 feet below the surface, the long main passage has been delved into, to find another mammoth chamber from which radiates scores of passageways, like the spokes of a wheel.

Several hundred rooms have been discovered, reached by passageways running from the main passage, one of them having been explored for 854 feet and another 634 feet. The recent finds include articles that have never been known as native to this country, and doubtless, they had their origin in the orient. War weapons, copper instruments, sharp-edged and hard as steel, indicate the high state of civilization reached by these strange people. So interested have the scientists become that preparations are being made to equip the camp for extensive studies, and the force will be increased to thirty or forty persons.

Mr. Kinkaid’s Report

Mr. Kinkaid was the first white child born in Idaho and has been an explorer and hunter all his life, thirty years having been in the service of the Smithsonian Institute. Even briefly recounted, his history sounds fabulous, almost grotesque.

“First, I would impress that the cavern is nearly inaccessible. The entrance is 1,486 feet down the sheer canyon wall. It is located on government land and no visitor will be allowed there under penalty of trespass. The scientists wish to work unmolested, without fear of archeological discoveries being disturbed by curio or relic hunters.

A trip there would be fruitless, and the visitor would be sent on his way. The story of how I found the cavern has been related, but in a paragraph: I was journeying down the Colorado River in a boat, alone, looking for mineral. Some forty-two miles up the river from the El Tovar Crystal canyon, I saw on the east wall, stains in the sedimentary formation about 2,000 feet above the riverbed. There was no trail to this point, but I finally reached it with great difficulty.

Above a shelf that hid it from view from the river, was the mouth of the cave. There are steps leading from this entrance some thirty yards to what was, at the time the cavern was inhabited, the level of the river. When I saw the chisel marks on the wall inside the entrance, I became interested, securing my gun, and went in. During that trip, I went back several hundred feet along the main passage till I came to the crypt in which I discovered the mummies. One of these I stood up and photographed by flashlight. I gathered a number of relics, which I carried down the Colorado to Yuma, from whence I shipped them to Washington with details of the discovery. Following this, the explorations were undertaken.

The Passages

“The main passageway is about 12 feet wide, narrowing to nine feet toward the farther end. About 57 feet from the entrance, the first side-passages branch off to the right and left, along which, on both sides, are a number of rooms about the size of ordinary living rooms of today, though some are 30 by 40 feet square. These are entered by oval-shaped doors and are ventilated by round air spaces through the walls into the passages. The walls are about three feet six inches in thickness.

The passages are chiseled or hewn as straight as could be laid out by an engineer. The ceilings of many of the rooms converge to a center. The side passages near the entrance run at a sharp angle from the main hall, but toward the rear, they gradually reach a right angle in direction.

The Shrine

“Over a hundred feet from the entrance is the cross-hall, several hundred feet long, in which are found the idol, or image, of the people’s god, sitting cross-legged, with a lotus flower or lily in each hand. The cast of the face is oriental, and the carving of this cavern. The idol almost resembles Buddha, though the scientists are not certain as to what religious worship it represents. Taking into consideration everything found thus far, it is possible that this worship most resembles the ancient people of Tibet.

Surrounding this idol are smaller images, some very beautiful in form; others crooked-necked and distorted shapes, symbolical, probably, of good and evil. There are two large cactus with protruding arms, one on each side of the dais on which the god squats. All this is carved out of hard rock resembling marble. In the opposite corner of this cross-hall were found tools of all descriptions, made of copper. These people undoubtedly knew the lost art of hardening this metal, which has been sought by chemicals for centuries without result. On a bench running around the workroom was some charcoal and other material probably used in the process. There is also slag and stuff similar to matte, showing that these ancients smelted ores, but so far no trace of where or how this was done has been discovered, nor the origin of the ore.

“Among the other finds are vases or urns and cups of copper and gold, made very artistic in design. The pottery work includes enameled ware and glazed vessels. Another passageway leads to granaries such as are found in the oriental temples. They contain seeds of various kinds. One very large storehouse has not yet been entered, as it is twelve feet high and can be reached only from above. Two copper hooks extend on the edge, which indicates that some sort of ladder was attached. These granaries are rounded, as the materials of which they are constructed, I think, is a very hard cement. A gray metal is also found in this cavern, which puzzles the scientists, for its identity has not been established. It resembles platinum. Strewn promiscuously over the floor everywhere are what people call “cats’ eyes’, a yellow stone of no great value. Each one is engraved with the head of the Malay type.

The Hieroglyphics

“On all the urns, or walls over doorways, and tablets of stone which were found by the image are the mysterious hieroglyphics, the key to which the Smithsonian Institute hopes yet to discover. The engraving on the tablets probably has something to do with the religion of the people. Similar hieroglyphics have been found in southern Arizona. Among the pictorial writings, only two animals are found. One is of prehistoric type.

The Crypt

“The tomb or crypt in which the mummies were found is one of the largest of the chambers, the walls slanting back at an angle of about 35 degrees. On these are tiers of mummies, each one occupying a separate hewn shelf. At the head of each is a small bench, on which is found copper cups and pieces of broken swords. Some of the mummies are covered with clay, and all are wrapped in a bark fabric.

The urns or cups on the lower tiers are crudes, while as the higher shelves are reached, the urns are finer in design, showing a later stage of civilization. It is worthy of note that all the mummies examined so far have proved to be male, no children or females being buried here. This leads to the belief that this exterior section was the warriors’ barracks.

“Among the discoveries no bones of animals have been found, no skins, no clothing, no bedding. Many of the rooms are bare but for water vessels. One room, about 40 by 700 feet, was probably the main dining hall, for cooking utensils are found here. What these people lived on is a problem, though it is presumed that they came south in the winter and farmed in the valleys, going back north in the summer.

Upwards of 50,000 people could have lived in the caverns comfortably. One theory is that the present Indian tribes found in Arizona are descendants of the serfs or slaves of the people which inhabited the cave. Undoubtedly a good many thousands of years before the Christian era, people lived here which reached a high stage of civilization. The chronology of human history is full of gaps. Professor Jordan is much enthused over the discoveries and believes that the find will prove of incalculable value in archeological work.

“One thing I have not spoken of, may be of interest. There is one chamber of the passageway to which is not ventilated, and when we approached it a deadly, snaky smell struck us. Our light would not penetrate the gloom, and until stronger ones are available we will not know what the chamber contains. Some say snakes, but other boo-hoo this idea and think it may contain a deadly gas or chemicals used by the ancients. No sounds are heard, but it smells snaky just the same. The whole underground installation gives one of shaky nerves the creeps. The gloom is like a weight on one’s shoulders, and our flashlights and candles only make the darkness blacker. Imagination can revel in conjectures and ungodly daydreams back through the ages that have elapsed till the mind reels dizzily in space.”

An Indian Legend

In connection with this story, it is notable that among the Hopi Indians the tradition is told that their ancestors once lived in an underworld in the Grand Canyon till dissension arose between the good and the bad, the people of one heart and the people of two hearts. Machetto, who was their chief, counseled them to leave the underworld, but there was no way out. The chief then caused a tree to grow up and pierce the roof of the underworld, and then the people of one heart climbed out. They tarried by Paisisvai (Red River), which is the Colorado, and grew grain and corn.

They sent out a message to the Temple of the Sun, asking the blessing of peace, good will and rain for people of one heart. That messenger never returned, but today at the Hopi villages at sundown can be seen the old men of the tribe out on the housetops gazing toward the sun, looking for the messenger. When he returns, their lands and ancient dwelling place will be restored to them. That is the tradition.

Among the engravings of animals in the cave is seen the image of a heart over the spot where it is located. The legend was learned by W.E. Rollins, the artist, during a year spent with the Hopi Indians.

There are two theories of the origin of the Egyptians. One is that they came from Asia; another that the racial cradle was in the upper Nile region. Heeren, an Egyptologist, believed in the Indian origin of the Egyptians. The discoveries in the Grand Canyon may throw further light on human evolution and prehistoric ages.

Egyptian Hieroglyphics in the Grand Canyon

One of the biggest things that I found strange was that a known newspaper like the Arizona Gazette published an article about a great and wonderful underground Egyptian city hidden in the Grand Canyon and then nothing! There were no more articles, follow-ups, or other newspapers that wrote about this. The information was just gone. I must ask myself, why was this article written? Was it another article that had no grounds or rights to speak of? Or was it something else?

I tend to believe that if something doesn’t seem right, then it probably isn’t. I decided to take on this story and I spent over 8 years researching anything I could find.

8 years of research and I have found many resources and information, but has it been enough? That depends on the eye of the beholder. I do think I have the area narrowed down within a 2-mile stretch and I feel that it could just be the right place. This area is South of the Lake Powell Dam and several miles along the Colorado River. This area goes along with the Arizona Gazette description and I believe that because the East canyon walls are owned by the Navaho Indians, there’s a good possibility that I have the correct spot.

I’ve also found short, and what seemed at the time, pointless documents from the digital library of a University in Arizona. After some time, I started to believe that the documents are not pointless, they were just vague. This was another point in my research where I pondered on taking the face value of the information. Is everything as it seems, or is there more to the story? I’ve also found documentation about the construction proposal about the Lake Powell Dam and the different locations they considered before choosing its modern-day resting place. In these documents, I have found strange accounts of why a few possible places were abandoned. Things that don’t make sense to me once again. This is information that anyone can find if you spend the time, doing the research.

Marble Canyon | Grand Canyon

Another thing that I found interesting was a temporary tramway constructed and used… What was it used for? This location of the tramway was too far away for the use of construction on the Lake Powell Dam. What was the tramway used for? This could be another clue to the mystery.

The more I dug into this story to see if I could prove or disprove its credibility, the more I found confusing information. When I start finding conflicting information like this, I start to wonder if there can be some truth to this story. There’s a lot of information that I will not disclose at this time, but I will disclose it later in another article. I mostly want to bring this story to the public’s attention and let you start your research. I would like to plant a seed in and see if it grows. Perhaps open your mind a little and send you down a rabbit hole.

That’s what historical research does to you. Stay on the right path and don’t veer too far from fact and fiction. Common sense is key, remember that. Information can be used. A conspiracy is toxic if you sink too much into it.

Let’s start off with why the government may have hidden this story from the public. I would say the biggest reason would be because it would change history as we know it. A lost city that has similar statues as Egypt and China would not go along with what we know in history for North America. There are many accounts of the Spanish voyaging to America but not Egyptians and Chinese.

One reason I suspect a story like this could be hidden from the public would be that they wouldn’t want explorers and adventures traveling the Grand Canyon area looking for clues in what could be a dangerous environment. From what is mentioned in the article, the climb up or down the Grand Canyon walls could pose a serious threat.

We all know and have seen what it is like during Black Friday. People running around and doing whatever they can to get a bargain. Treasure hunting can be the same way when people think they have a chance to strike it rich.

Many people could argue many different points, but I also think that there is a little bit of truth to every story if you keep your mind open.

Lost History of the Grand Canyon | Mystery is Waiting

Let’s say that this story has no real meaning and it’s nothing but a story, something to spice up a good hunt, it’s still an interesting thought. At this point, I can not confirm or deny the story’s legitimacy.

If it isn’t true, everyone’s life would go on and nothing would change. No harm. No foul. Just fake news.

If this story is true, then I would say we have a lot to lose. History, government cover-ups, and something new to see and learn. For some of you that are new to stories like this, it may seem impossible but to others, this story seems like it could be real and someone should do something about hunting down more clues and evidence so we all can know for ourselves.

Like I mentioned before, I’m not going to mention all my clues and discoveries in this article but what I’m trying to do is open your mind to possibilities. I would like to ask you to ponder on a couple of things.

Why did the Arizona Gazette write an article about the Archaeologist’s discovery? Was it just fake news, filling a slot in the newspaper?

Why did the story come and go? Some say that the archaeologist even went public and said that he lied about his discovery. That’s very interesting too.

What would it benefit to make up a story like this and then drop the subject? Fame? But the archaeologist revoked his story, so where did that get him?

Too many questions to ask and figure out. I have a feeling that you as the reader can investigate this story for a very long time.

I would like to invite you to do some research of your own. It’s easy. Go to Google Search and start typing in search terms like “the lost city in the Grand Canyon. Or underground Egyptian city hid in the Grand Canyon.” That will get you started and then you can see if it takes you down a rabbit hole as it did to me. Please keep an eye out for another article I will write about this story in the future. It will give you more insight into my clues, discoveries, and locations. It will guide you further and will leave you in an adventurous and curious state. Until then…

  1. very interesting. I had heard about this before, but I did not know the great detail that the Arizona Gazette printed about the discovery. I find it also interesting as the author does, that no more was said about this find. seems like another gov’t cove up. I am also wondering if the Anasazi tribe was related somehow?

  2. Sounds like something I heard about the anasazis too, and also on Ancient Aliens where they talk about the gods of the Aztecs, among others who have similar origin myths about their ancestors being created in caves where they lived for a while and then were told to move to another location while being taught astronomy, architecture, and agriculture etc.!

  3. our world is so old, and humans are approx. 9 millions here….Giza Pyramid approx. 23000 years old. even if this is not believable, but of course our understanding about those wonderful discoveries shall us all make think no different and our history (his story) shall be and needs to be re written…..Humans have been grand for millions of years!

  4. Maybe this information could shed more light to the American Pyramids culture here on the continent.

  5. Very interesting article. There is no mention of looking into the Smithsonian archives? The fellow was working for them, but I suppose that if he refuted the claims then their archives would reflect that?

  6. Something is being left out of this find. It would not have been empty. Who took what out? Where is it now? Why wasn’t this in our school History Books?

  7. Debbie Hodges, probably because the same reason they aren’t teaching all of history now & throwing away all “our” history books! History offends the naive unfortunately 😪

  8. well… as the arizona gazette details… kincaid and professor jordan were “smithsonian funded exploreres”… but of course the smithsonian has no records to substantiate this and denies even knowing either of these explorers. smells like a cover up to me.

    • John, I tried to look into the Smithsonian accounts, documents, and information and I couldn’t find much at all. It was strange, during my research, I would find small breadcrumbs on the web from a University in Arizona, some small info on the Lake Powell dam construction, and non-relevant information to this discovery in the Grand Canyon. It’s easier to find stories like mine than it is to find information from officials. This is not the only story that seems like a cover-up that I’ve been researching. After all my years, I’m starting to learn if there was a significant discovery in America, some type of cover-up is present. If you like this story, I have published many more.

  9. Great stuff, Timothy. Do you perchance have a website/mailing list/podcast or some way to keep apprised of your research? Thank you.

    • Hello Sandy,

Thanks for the feedback. The best way to follow me and the Treasures in America team and what we are working on is through our website and social media. We would love to have you around. Have a great day.

  10. I was informed by some very wise men many years ago that North America became a haven for those who did not ascribe to Islamic and Egyptian culture and we’re exiled for their pagan beliefs. This may explain the variations of multiple cultures that retained some of their more traditional religious and cultural teachings. The Grand Canyon holds the truth about the Black man and his far reaching influence on this planet Earth and yes… beyond. HOTEP,!

  11. My understanding is that Mr. Kincaid disappeared shortly after announcing that he had lied. I have heard stories from Apache Native Americans that the cave does exists and contains treasures. I know that at this time nobody is allowed anywhere near it. The Government has stationed a guard and restricted the airspace. Definitely covering up something!

    • My viewpoint is from a biblical perspective. I do absolutely believe Giants walked this earth. The book of Enoch and other apocrypha, which at much earlier dates were considered cannon, have proven this for me. Giants were the offspring of rebel Angels, who are not all that different from ourselves and do not have wings and blonde hair. Angels are many and varied in type/attributes. They are beings of free will and autonomy just as we are. Some 200 of them made a pact and descended upon Mt. Hermon and took for themselves human women as mates.
This was a great sin and threw God’s natural order into chaos.
Native American have ancient oral histories of fighting pale skinned Giants, many, many times larger than any man, with eye and hair color variations. For me, the simplest reason this is always suppressed and denied, is due to ego and so many so-called scientists being invested in Darwinism and Evolution.
This world is wild and supernatural and in primordial times even more so. The truth is far stranger and more fantastic than the fiction we’ve all been lead to believe.
Great article and thank you for taking up this extremely important investigation.

  12. I agree with you Jason laveck, I’ve also been reading the book of Enoch and the apocrypha. It says the giants we’re killing man and telling human women the secrets of the earth that god didn’t want us to know. Which is why god flooded the earth. I believe they were far smarter than we are today and I also believe they were the ones who created the pyramids which would make perfect sense. With that being said and I’m coming up with this with nothing to back it up but if men were hiding from these Giants out of fear wouldn’t 1400 feet down a cliff be the perfect place to hide from Giants who couldn’t even fit in the entrance? Just a thought.

    • Not all sources are true the main reason God flooded the earth is because of people refusing to follow the prophet who at the time was Noah there is a song in my religion that says Noah was a prophet called to preach the word tries to cry repentance but nobody heard they were busy sining Noah preach in vain. Like I said at the beginning not all sources are true and many have been changed. Just look how many types of Bibles there are and if you look at them most of them will have many different wording or verses in them so I would say be careful about what you read and believe and definitely ask what God thinks about it always go to God before you believe something.

  13. Jason and Robert, if you are interested in the book of Enoch, I suggest you read the works of Michael S. Heiser. Now excuse me as I go down the rabbit hole of the possibility of Egyptians camping out in America….

  14. Heather, I have just started reading Heiser’s Supernatural. What an eye opening book! Love this stuff and was happy to find this site. HNY everyone!

  15. What’s Going down i’m new to this, I stumbled upon this I have found It positively
useful and it has helped me out loads. I hope to give a contribution &
assist other users like its helped me. Good job.

  17. I am no longer sure where you are getting your info, but great
topic. I must spend a while finding out more or figuring out more.
Thank you for magnificent information I was looking for this information for my mission.

  18. The giants in the Bible and book of Enoch, have a serious truth to it. Just research RH- BLOOD lines. RH- lacks the Rhesus gene. We RH -blood holders have alien blood in us and weman who have this need to to get a shot when pregnant so our blood does not attack and kill the foreign RH+ blood that may be in our unborn child. Why would our bo dies. Why would this natural human process kill off what is suppose to grow naturally in us?

  19. Hello, I am a believer ,sounds like a cover up, sounds like we have been lied to as many other cover ups exist as well. I appreciate this article and enjoyed reading it. I am working towards my BA in History and I love ,LOVE History, I look forward to reading and learning more. Perhaps one day we will all know the truth.

  20. When I read this, I thought about the Sanskit scrolls that depict flying pyramidal shaped aircrafts. They could have been spacecrafts. How hard is it to believe that beings from other planets have been here and tinkered, in one way or another, with our genetics? We are in our adolescence as a civilization. We have only been to the moon with people, and just to the edge of outer space to live for short periods of time. How hard is it to believe that we will become a space faring race as well? If we can travel easily from planet to planet, how hard would it be to go to the other side of the Earth? Not hard in my opinion. Perhaps it is not our lost civilization, but people who stayed here temporarily and left as our civilization began. Just food for thought… the metallurgy in this case would be significant if it came from elsewhere, where it is natural… As far as hiding the discovery, how ready are we as a civilization to accept that we are not alone in this universe, or this galaxy for that matter. It would be a crisis of faith for many. The pope has now let out that if there is life on other planets, it is also part of God’s plan. How convenient to have that said at this point in time when more people are accepting that the things we see in the sky are real effects of other beings visiting and making their presence known, but slowly, as to not scare the natives. I have always considered the Hopiand Arapahoe tribes to have ancient knowledge and ancient ties. Is this what we need to learn now?

  21. Underground cities, caves and artificats are still being found, discounted, and covered up to this day. I recently did a story on Travel Channels Mysteries of the Outdoors about the Big Bend Mystery Tablets that were found in a cave in Big Bend National Park only to dissapear after being turned into park authorities. Luckily the people who found them were smart enough to photograph it and do much of their correspondance to the park ranger who they turned it into by mail so there is some written records of their existence. The tablets contained ancient inscriptions written on clay tablets that fit together like a puzzle and later confirmed to be written in old zoroastrian symbols.

  22. This is all folklore, nothing but old wives tales, merely works of fiction. The artifacts were placed there in the canyon as a publicity stunt to promote tourism. They also had a bunch of hippie artist go out & try to recreate drawings found all over the world so America could have a top position in history. So, its nothing new under the sun, white power in its finest form. Now back to the daily grind sheep, nothing to learn here, quit looking & shut up!

  23. I was told years ago when I was visiting Boston, and met an old East Indian man who asked me if I was Indian, I said no, I’m Mexican, he said you do know years ago, long time ago, our brightest scientists, astronomers and scholars, were persecuted in India and left, they found Mexico. You are descended from those people. Your country will never teach you that. I wondered if he’s right. Also you wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve been mistaken for East Indian. My grandmothers tribe the Huicholes, have a native costume that is embroidered that is very similar from those in east India. I found a book written, that listed the similarities of the Nahuatl language words and those from Sanskrit. And from Turkish and also the worship of snakes. When visiting Hopi lands when I told them about be Huichol, they knew about our tribe and said we are brothers. You know Hopi are very ancient peoples, and are different from the other southern US tribes, yet there beliefs are the same as Mexican Indian tribes. I believe we are one. We belong to the snake clan and travelled south into Mexico. Reasearch what I said and you will go down another rabbit hole.

  24. I grew up near Green River Wyoming and went fishing with my folks as a kid on the Green River where I found a man who had commited suicide. Had no idea it was the same river because it has been misquoted as Green River Utah, which when I read it autmatically knew it was incorrect but until this article had no proof . Thank you so much for the sharing of your research. RW
